Why this project matters

New York City is one of the great crossroads of the world. Many communities living here come from regions where the gospel has historically been difficult to access. In this setting, the local church has a rare opportunity: to pray, to notice, to welcome, and to witness with humility and love.

52 peoples

This project follows a full-year rhythm: one people group each week, helping churches keep mission awareness alive throughout the calendar year.

Prayer-led mission

We do not begin with strategy alone. We begin with prayer, asking God to reveal Christ, open hearts, and raise up faithful laborers in every community.

Urban mission focus

Queens, Brooklyn, the Bronx, Manhattan, and Staten Island host communities from across the world. The nations are no longer far away. They are nearby.

What Unreached NYC does

This site turns mission information into something accessible and actionable for ordinary believers.

  • Profiles unreached and frontier peoples living in New York City
  • Supports a 52 Weeks of Prayer rhythm for churches and families
  • Provides a simple framework for friendship-based mission
  • Helps leaders teach with clarity about diaspora mission

Research note

People group names, unreached status, frontier status, and 10/40 Window categories are referenced from Joshua Project mission research. Neighborhood presence and population figures are presented here as ministry-oriented estimates designed for awareness, prayer, and mobilization.

Use these profiles as a starting point for prayer and mission understanding, not as a replacement for local relationship, humility, and on-the-ground learning.

Why this matters

Seeing the city helps shape prayer

Good mission begins with clear sight. When believers can see where peoples are concentrated, prayer becomes more focused, hospitality becomes more intentional, and witness becomes more tangible.

Visual Focus

Prayer for the boroughs

Across streets and neighborhoods, the nations dwell — and through prayer, the boroughs become fields ready for harvest.

A Changing City

New York City has become an even clearer meeting place of the nations

Over time, migration, visibility, research, and local engagement have helped the church recognize more clearly the presence of unreached peoples in New York City.

About 20 years ago Less Visible

Fewer churches saw diaspora mission as a local reality

For many believers, unreached peoples were still thought of mainly as distant nations overseas. The presence of these communities across New York City was less visible in common mission awareness.

Today 52 Peoples

A clearer picture of the nations living across the city

Today, churches can pray and engage with greater understanding, recognizing that New York City is one of the world’s great crossroads for gospel access among the nations.

From lower visibility to clearer recognition
